East Penobscot Bay
Nature Education Resource Directory

In this directory we have tried to collect in one place as many names as we could discover of groups and individuals who can teach students and curious residents about the natural world in the East Penobscot Bay area. We have cast as wide a net as we could, including:

  • persons who can guide walks and identify flora and fauna ;
  • persons who can teach us how to conserve, manage, open safely to the public, and interpret the variety of lands in the area set aside as our heritage;
  • persons who can help us all, particularly the children in our schools and youth organizations, express our encounters with the natural beauty in which we live through tapping our creative instincts and spiritual resources; and
  • persons who can assist others in programming activities.

This directory is meant to be used by all who want to expand their knowledge of the out-of-doors. We will update it regularly. We invite any and all users to provide corrections, suggestions, comments, and additions. Send all such thoughts and updates to Helen Weinland at kaduna@downeast.net.

The directory is an outgrowth of a looseleaf manual developed two years ago by the education committee of The Conservation Trust of Brooksville, Castine, and Penobscot. That manual was placed in the schools and libraries of the East Penobscot Bay area. In deciding to create a site on the Internet, we recognize that more and more people use this medium for program planning. We also wish to make it more available to people working at some distance from brick and mortar institutions.

We hope it will be found helpful and widely used. Most of all we hope it will lead everyone living in these communities to become more aware of the precious heritage of which we are all stewards.
